Course Overview An introduction to a child-centred approach to your organisation: having clear policies and procedures in place to minimise the risk of abuse or harm to children and young people, for dealing with complaints and allegations, and how this should serve to support board members, all staff and volunteers and ease anxiety around the issues of child protection and safety.
Course Content The course is divided into two parts. The first part of the day will be a formatted as a workshop where you will look at a variety of scenarios examining how children and young people are at risk, how to minimize that risk and how to identify and deal with concerns.
The second part of the day, will look at how to formulate and develop a policy for your organisation, expressing your organisations commitment to providing a safe environment for children and young people, undertaking to apply that policy throughout your organisation and detailing procedures and steps to ensure that the Child Protection Policy is implemented across all areas of the organisation.
This training will also give you a background to legislation and legal obligations relevant to child protection based on government guidelines published in ‘Children First: National Guidelines for the Protection and Welfare of Children’ and ‘Guidelines for the Protection and Welfare of Children and Young People in the Arts Sector’ published by the Arts Council, and provide you with other supports that are available from agencies such as the HSE.
