Dr Colin Campbell
Founder and Honorary Chairman of The Association for the Study of Peak Oil (“ASPO”)
Colin Campbell took a D.Phil in geology at Oxford University in 1957, based in part on mapping the hills of Connemara. He then joined the oil industry as a field geologist working in Trinidad, Colombia and later New Guinea for major oil companies. In 1969, he was appointed Regional Geologist for Latin America, based in New York and Chicago, before becoming Chief Geologist of a venture in Ecuador. In 1972, he was appointed General Manager of a small company in London and negotiated oil rights in Britain, Holland, Ireland, Portugal and Turkey, before returning to a major company as Exploration Manager in Norway in 1980, later to become Executive Vice-President there before retiring in 1989. His early work led him to understand the constraints to exploration and the nature of depletion. He had his company sponsor research into the subject by the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate, the results of which were published in the first of six books he has written on the subject.
Barry O’Leary
Chief Executive Officer, IDA
Barry O’Leary was appointed Chief Executive Designate of IDA Ireland in 2007. He took over the role of CEO from Sean Dorgan on January 1st 2008. Prior to this appointment he was Divisional Manager of the IDA’s LifeSciences and Information and Communications Technology business units. Mr. O’Leary has worked in the IDA for over 30 years in most of its business areas including two periods totalling 15 years in Germany, latterly as Director of Europe. He has been deeply involved in changing the profile and raising the value of Ireland’s inward investments over the past ten years. He has been primarily responsible for the successful establishment of Ireland as the leading global location outside the US for biopharmaceuticals. He has also undertaken strategic change and built new strengths in R&D, medical technologies, information and communications technology and other areas.
Peter Lacy
Managing Director, Sustainability Services - Europe, Africa and Latin America, Accenture
Peter has worked with the management of a range of Fortune 500 companies, the United Nations, European Union and public sector organisations on sustainability strategy, policy and delivery. He leads Accenture’s Sustainability Services Practice across industries and service lines. Previously he was Senior Advisor to McKinsey and Company on Business in Society. He was also Executive Director of the European Academy of Business in Society where he remains a Non Executive Director and its Senior Advisor on Climate Change, as well as several other boards. He is a business fellow at Oxford University Smith School of Economics and Environment.
Jim Barry
CEO, NTR
Jim Barry was appointed Chief Executive of NTR plc in July 2000. NTR plc, the international renewable energy group, was founded in 1978. NTR has evolved from being a developer and operator of infrastructure in Ireland to an international developer and operator of renewable energy (wind, solar and ethanol) and sustainable waste management businesses in the USA and Ireland. The Group employs over 2,000 people. Prior to joining NTR plc in 1998, Jim worked with Bain and Company, a leading global management consulting firm, and in the investment banking division of Morgan Stanley International. Jim has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from University College Cork and a Masters in Business Administration from Harvard Business School.
Brian Motherway
Chief Operations Officer of SEAI
Dr Brian Motherway is the Chief Operations Officer in the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland. He is responsible for strategy and policy. SEAI is Ireland’s national energy authority. Its mission is to play a leading role in transforming Ireland into a society based on sustainable energy structures, technologies and practices.
Dr Michael Walsh
CEO, Irish Wind Energy Assoc, (IWEA)
Michael Walsh joined IWEA as CEO in November 2007. IWEA is the national association for the Irish wind industry. Prior to joining IWEA Michael was manager of market development at EirGrid where he played a key role in the successful development of the Single Electricity Market. He was previously Manager of Ancillary Services at EirGrid and a lecturer in Electronic Engineering at UCD. Michael has a B.E., a Ph.D. and an MBA from UCD
Pat O’Doherty
Executive Director, ESB Energy International
Pat O’Doherty was appointed Executive Director, ESB Energy International in February 2010 with responsibility for all of ESB’s generation and international activities. Previously, he held the position of Executive Director ESB Networks since November 2009 and Executive Director ESB Power Generation since July 2005. He joined ESB in 1981 and has worked in various customer service, project management and general management roles. Prior to his appointment as Executive Director, Power Generation, he held the position of General Manager, Synergen. He also held senior positions in ESB Networks.
PJ Rudden
Group Energy & Environment Director, RPS
PJ Rudden is Group Energy & Environment Director for RPS in Ireland and Northern Ireland. He also chairs the all Ireland Strategy Board for RPS across all business units. He has over 25 years experience of the Irish energy business having been significantly involved in many Bord Gáis transmission pipelines including the Second Gas Interconnector and Gas Pipeline to the West. More recently he is RPS Project Director for planning, routing, EIS and consents for the Onshore Pipeline Route for the Corrib Partners. He is consultant to Eirgrid for transmission network upgrades to facilitate renewable energy connections and to Coillte on wind farm development in the Midlands. He is also Project Director for the Irish Scottish Links Energy Study (ISLES) on Offshore Renewables for the three Governments off the coasts of Scotland, Ireland & Northern Ireland. He was recently elected Vice President of Engineers Ireland.
